Funny?

Found this on the net. It just shows the lack of general knowledge people have in todays 'globalised world'.

This is just too good to not share...

The following is a true and actual story - I swear on my bearded dragon - and it just goes to show that some things really cannot be made up.

Yesterday my boss and I went to BJ's, a wholesale shopping club, to get coffee for the office. After looking at the big screen TVs, recliners, and other such manly gadgets and doodads - not to mention a few minutes in a daze because they no longer had any of 'the good coffee' in stock - we decided to head over to the cash register and get going.

Standing in line, I happened to notice the cashier. Of Arabic decent (the beard and choice of head-wear being my clue ) he seemed like a nice normal guy - but BJ's makes them all wear name tags, and that's what I noticed on this fellow. Curteous as he was, all I could foucus on was his name - Manmeet. Just say it out loud, as it is spelled, and try not to laugh. I turned to my boss, and said slowly and quietly, "The cashier's name is Manmeet". He looked over, then quickly looked back and tried to contain himself. Our brains hurt from the joke-potential overload.

So to put it in simple terms:

Yesterday I met a guy named Manmeet who takes money for BJ's .....

That explains why so many sikhs got attacked in America post 9/11. But I really wonder how can a nation not know about the its own people setteled since the last century.

ABOUT SIKHS IN AMERICA

Indians-specifically punjabi's, many of whom were sikhs (beared men with turbans and NOT OF ARABIC DECENT) migrated to United States and Canada in 1907 and 1908 . The reason being, the 'Alienation of Land Act' (in 1900). This act prohibited certain non farming castes from owning agricultural land. Though the act prevented money-lenders from taking over farm land , it prevented many to own and develop land. As new canals were constructed , there was much irrigated land available-but prohibited. Along with this , Punjab suffered a sever famine and an epidemic of bubonic plague.Such conditions led to series of riots in district towns of Punjab in the summer of 1907. That is when Punjabi's started migrating to Canada and America.
The years 1907 and 1908 were when the largest no. of migrants from Punjab came to Canada and the United States of America.
Many of the migrants had come to North America during their service to the British army and most of them were sikhs.

A LITTLE ABOUT PUNJABI/SIKH NAMES

Sikh men and sikh women . There is no gender bias in selecting a name in the sikh religion. 'Manmeet' is used for a male as well as a female (as is my case). Inderjeet, Maninder, Kulwinder, Harjot,Manpreet, Daljeet, Harbans...............all can be a woman's name or a man's.

I don't want to have children

JUST A SIMPLE CONVERSATION

COLLEGUE: so do you have any children?
ME: no, I don't intend to have any.
C: ha! ha!(she laughs)what does your husband say?
M: Well it's a mutual decision.
C: how long have you been married?
M: more than a year now.
C: she laughs again-that's why you are saying that.
M: no, its not one of those things-saying just for the heck of it.
C: no no after some time your body will start demanding a child.
M: no, I think it's the demand of the mind and the society.
C: (she pauses for a minute)so do your parents and in-laws know about it?
M: how does it matter?
C: if they hear you they will kick you out.
M: out from where?
C: from the world…
M: well ma'am, drug dealers, murderers, politicians, lawyers, industrialists, you and me, we all live in the same society. So who is kicking whom out of this world?

Corruption with love

Capitalism is very infectious and it creeps in unknown ways.

A recent conversation.

Elderly collegue talking about her grand daughter to a young mother and I happened to be there.

Elderly collegue: "so how do you manage with such small kid (3 year old) ? doens't he trouble you?"

Young mother: "oh ma'am, don't ask. He's like a storm at times."

Elderly collegue: "oh my daughter is very smart at managing her daughter. What she has started with her now is that she engages the little one to do the house work and for everything she does my daughter pays her. Rs.2 for the table, Rs. 5 for keeping her toys , Rs.2 for keeping her shoes..........."

I just couldn't stay quiet so I asked her with a smile : "So she is getting her first lessons in corruption?"

And Ma'am just turned a deaf ear.
